Still, there is some confusion “out there” about what mobile detailing is all about.

We get asked a lot of questions from consumers all over the country about what we do and what we’re about. And certainly, we’re happy to share this kind of information. We want to get the word out about our detailing services. That is exactly why we’ve decided to create this Q&A section. If you’ve got questions, they’re probably answered here. Are mobile detailers as dependable as “traditional” auto detail shops?

We get asked this question a lot, and we always respond with an emphatic YES! We believe we have some of the very best detailing technicians, products and equipment in the industry. We provide all of the same, quality services as “traditional” detailers, including washing, polishing and waxing, odor and stain removal, interior shampooing and vacuuming, paint restoration, and cleaning of the wheels, engine, under-chassis and leather. You’re not going to “miss out” on anything by enlisting us. In fact, you will probably receive BETTER quality work, not less. And you’ll get convenience. We’ll come to you, rather than you having to drive somewhere and then have to wait around in a waiting room for the work to be done.

Can I buy a gift card for your detailing services?

Yes. If you’d like to buy one online, simply go to our website and at the very top of the home page you’ll see a link to gift cards. On this page you can purchase an e-gift card that can either be emailed to the recipient, or you can print it off yourself if you’d like to make it an in-person gift. Your other option is to give us a call on at 800.758.9280 and pay for the gift card over the phone, and we will then email the card to you or directly to the recipient—whatever you prefer. Once the recipient has the gift card, he or she can then schedule the detailing service online.

Do I pay before or after the job is done?

When you schedule a detailing job, you will be asked to give us a credit card number. However, we’re not going to charge your account yet. The reason we ask for a credit card is so we can pre-authorize you, and in effect, verify that you’re a real, live person, rather than a robot or a computer spammer. At this point, our fee may appear on your credit card as a pending charge. Once the work as been done and you are totally satisfied, that is when the amount will become an actual charge on your credit card.

Do you have a cancellation policy? If so, what is it?

Your detailing appointments are very important to those of us at Mobile Detail Boss. Still, we realize that life can get complicated and sometimes you simply must make a schedule change. When that happens, we respectfully request that you give us at least 48 hours notice for any cancellation of service. Cancellations with less than 48 hours notice will require a full payment for scheduled services.

Please understand that if you forget about the appointment or if you cancel last minute, we miss the opportunity to fill that appointment time, and other clients on our waiting list miss out on the chance to receive services during that time slot. We must adhere strictly to this cancellation policy in order to prevent lost wages for our mobile detailing technicians, and to keep our fees low.

Do you have a customer satisfaction form for us to fill out and sign when the work is finished?

Yes, we do, and it’s very important that our customers complete and sign this form. This tells us that the work was done, and to your satisfaction. Once we receive the signed form, we will be able to pay the detailer who did the job for you.

How much will you charge to detail my car, and how do you determine the fee?

If you’d like us to detail your car (or other vehicle), the first step is to go onto our website or call us for a price estimate. We will need to know your vehicle make, model, year and color. Once we have this basic information, we can provide you a price estimate. In most cases, our estimate will be very close to the final fee you are charged. However, that’s not a promise, and that’s for the simple reason that we generally do not see your car before we come out to do the detail.

There are times when our technicians will come out to do a detailing job and they are shocked to discover just how poorly maintained the vehicles are. Please understand that if your car is far dirtier than what’s normal, it’s going to take considerable more time to get it up to par and therefore additional fees must be charged. So while you may have gotten a lower estimate when you first made the booking, we won’t be able to do the work for that price. The only way we would be able to give you a definite price quote in advance would be to schedule an inspection before the work is done.

How often do I need to wax my car?

This is one of those questions where there’s not a one-size-fits-all kind of answer. How frequently you should wax your car really depends on a number of variables, such as the climate where you live, and the type of car wax and car wash products you use. In general, though, if your vehicle is usually parked in a garage, waxing twice a year should be enough to protect the paint finish. But if your is parked outdoors, or if you live in a snowy climate, a new coat of car wax every 3 to 4 months may be recommended.

How secure is your website?

Very much so! We take great care with any personal or financial information you provide when you use our website. Anything you tell us is restricted to our staff, and we make sure our employees stay up-to-date on our security and privacy policies. In terms of our computer network, our server encrypts the transmission of all personal data that is transmitted using SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) protocol. This prevents third parties from being able to “eavesdrop” on transmissions and view the information that is being transmitted. Of course, if you are still uncomfortable about sharing your personal details online, feel free to give us a call and we can take your information over the phone.

Should I wax my vehicle?

We highly recommend it. Car wax should be applied to your vehicle after it’s been washed and polished. Doing so not only makes the exterior shine, it also protects your vehicle from the elements and pollution—everything from UV rays, harsh weather and road salt, to bird droppings, tree sap and vehicle exhaust. Furthermore, car wax reduces the amount of water and moisture that comes in contact with the paint, thereby minimizing corrosion. All in all, waxing is not just an aesthetic step, but an effective way to prevent damage to your vehicle.

What exactly is mobile detailing?

Mobile detailing is a term that’s used a lot these days, and not everybody agrees exactly on what it entails. Here at Mobile Detail Boss, we define it as a detailing service that is performed wherever you want it done. That could be your garage, driveway, workshop, office, a parking lot adjacent to your home, or some other location. It’s kind of like it was in the “old days” when family doctors used to make house calls, or milk men brought milk right to your doorstep. We come out to your site with all of the tools and supplies to perform the detail right then and there. You don’t have to drive out to an auto shop somewhere to get the work done. This can be a real plus when you’ve got hard-to-move vehicles, such as a non-operating antique car, or a large boat that would cost a small fortune in gasoline to haul it somewhere to be detailed.

What happens if I’m not satisfied with the work that was done?

What if it rains, snows or it’s too cold on the day of my appointment?

We strive to work in a way that is similar to the old U.S. Post Office motto: that neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet nor hail will keep us from our appointed rounds. Even during inclement weather, our technicians have the equipment and skills necessary to get the job done. You can always count on us to do the job when it’s scheduled—even in not-so-great weather. Of course, there can be extreme weather scenarios, like a blizzard drops three feet of snow in a few hours or 100 m.p.h. hurricane winds are passing through the area. In these situations, we will be happy to reschedule your appointment for another day (and we’ll probably want to do this as much as you do!), and there will, of course, be no charge to you.

What types of vehicles do you service?

We service all types of vehicles including passenger cars, SUVs and crossover vehicles, cargo and passenger vans, pickup trucks, buses, motorcycles, boats (pontoon, ski, sail, cruiser, console, etc.), personal watercraft (Jet Ski, WaveRunner, Ski-Doo), RVs, off-road vehicles (ATVs and UTVs), and class A and C motor homes. There’s pretty much no type of vehicle we won’t service.

Where are you located?

While we have an administrative office, that is a only a very small part of who we are. We’re not a “one main office” or a “one big building” kind of operation. We’ve got hundreds of mobile detailing units located across the United States. And even then, you’re not expected to go to where they’re located. Our mobile detailers come to you. So in that sense, we might be located in your driveway—if that’s where you want to have your vehicle detailed.

Which detailing package to recommend to people who are getting ready to sell their vehicles?

We’ve got a special package just for our customers who are preparing to sell their vehicles, whether it’s a car, SUV, truck, bus, boat, van or motorcycle. It’s called the “Sell My Vehicle Detail.” This detailing package includes cleaning the exterior and interior, buffing paint, polishing and waxing. If you need ding and dent removal, rust removal, wheel repair, headlight restoration or engine detailing, these services are not part of the standard presale package, but we would be happy to take care of this as well for an additional fee.

Will having my car detailed help me sell it?

Absolutely! And not only will detailing increase the probability of selling it, you’ll probably be able to sell it more quickly and at a higher price. Statistics show that having a car detailed can boost the resale or trade-in value by $1,000 on average, and in some cases (particularly with more expensive automobiles) $1,500 or more. Now obviously, getting a car in good mechanical condition is still the number one concern for most buyers. But we all know that even a car is in top shape under the hood, if it’s dirty with dull paint—rather than clean and shiny—people may not be interested in it, or they’ll try to low-ball the seller.
